Robots (ロボット Robotto?) refer to entities originating from the Mecha Ordinance. They are created by a man-made artificial intelligence that went out of humanity's control. Robots are one of the thirteen natural enemies of humanity featured in Versus.

Appearance

The appearance of the Robots can vary depending on model. Most robots are armored quadrupedal beings with a movable camera and screen integrated headpiece. Their headpiece usually shows a smiley face, but once they enter Destruction-mode, their smiley face is exchanged for several circles with a dot in the center. When incapacitated, they show a sad face or a question mark.

Characteristics

Robots are mass-produced in automated factories, resulting in numbers that are virtually countless. Keila has noted that they have far surpassed humans in both intelligence and power, creating weapons that even the humans of her world cannot comprehend. The robots' AI evolves every second, constantly trying to find the most efficient way of locating humans to eliminate them. This involves psychological tactics such as luring survivors with synthesized human speech sugarcoated with false promises of shelter, companions, and warm meals to draw out desperate humans from hiding. Robots lack any concept of death, continuing their rampage until they are physically unable to do so, as shown in the battle between Kiva and the Advanced Robot.[1]

Robots are also capable of adapting to attacks from others, even those not native from their world. If encountered with an unknown source of attack, they will temporarily shut down, reactivate, and then revise their strategy depending on their alert levels. The speed at which they adapt against potential threats is quick as well, with the Advanced Robot in particular creating a new barrier system to counter Zaybi's thunder spells in a matter of minutes.[2] When faced against particularly strong opponents, their ability to adapt is rendered even more deadly. When attacking Roya Roach's castle, an Advanced Robot was hidden in each wave mobilized against the demons. With each Advanced Robot defeated, they get substantially stronger, to the point that by the fourth Advanced Robot, Roya Roach was forced to unleash her Release, compared to the first one which was defeated effortlessly.[3]

Particularly, robots are shown to attack anything with a heat source, aligning only with themselves. Depending on the amount of energy near one, a robot would change their priority target to the one containing the highest source. However, if a robot is unable to detect a heat source, they will completely ignore the target.[4]

Variations

Basic

The basic unit has canine, robo-dog style design. It can stand on its hind legs and open up its belly, deploying multiple limbs with various lethal attachments like saws, drills, and mace heads.

Naver

The Naver (ネイバー Neibā?) is a bipedal unit. It has a tall, slender humanoid design with an upside-down cone-shaped head.

Tortoise

The Tortoise (トータス Tōtasu?) is a quadraped heavy artillery unit.

Friend

The Friend (フレンド Furendo?), or alternatively called the Specialized Natural Enemy Obliteration Unit ( (てん) (てき) (まっ) (さつ) (とっ) () (がた) Tenteki massatsu tokkagata?), is a more advanced version of the Naver unit, designed to combat other natural enemies.

History

Background

Robots were originally inorganic machines created by the humans of Keila's world. However, due to the sudden and rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, they went rogue and consequently conquered 80% of the world, aiming to eliminate humanity as a repercussion.[5]

Introduction Arc

As Zaybi and Keila are bickering over whether Demons or Robots are the stronger natural enemy, they are interrupted by a cheery musical tune played by the robots' as they approach, seeking to calm down and draw out any hiding humans by repeating false promises of safety and care. One of them quickly notices the humans hiding behind some rubble by detecting their heat sources, causing them all to charge towards them.[6]

The Anti-Machine Combat Force shoots at them with both beam bullets and armor-piercing kinetic bullets but both projectiles fail to deal any damage, the AI having learned and redeveloped itself to defend against them.[7] But as the robots close in, the Mage Force's magic such as Earth-Quake and Earth-Shattering Magic traps them in a hole, with High-Level Frost Magic quickly shutting them down due to the sudden temperature fall.[8]

However, after only a short while later, they successfully restart their systems, clambering out of the hole and attacking the humans.[9] They get incapacitated by Zaybi's Thunder Bolt but Naver finishes its analysis, devising a counter-measure in the form of an energy shield which blocks the Mage Force's lightning magic, allowing the robots to advance.[10]

Naver is about to kill Zaybi but is struck by Hallow's thrown sword, getting successfully baited into attacking Kiva due to his extremely high biological energy causing it to switch targets. Its Happy Missiles fail to stop Kiva, who pierces the robot through the chest with his hand, causing it to revise his Threat Level and designate him as a Priority Target.[11] When Kiva gets distracted and extends his hand to stop Hallow from flying away, Naver cuts his limb off with a laser beam, causing the enraged Kiva to enter his Burst form.[12] The robot designates him as Threat Level 6, releasing its limiter on all weapons as it prepares to eliminate Kiva.[13]

Demons vs Aliens Arc

When the colossal Madalan warship that was destroyed by Daikokuzan crashed and exploded in a giant mushroom cloud, the Robots were one of several natural enemies depicted reacting to it. Inside a large Mecha city, a basic robot detects the explosion and transfers the data to Mother.[14]

Demons vs Titans Arc

Several robots are seen in the Verdant Forest with a group barely surviving after being attacked by giant insects. While the survivors saved the date of their encounter and sent it to the rest of the kind, members of the robots' scouts began to initiate protocols to eliminate all lifeforms. However, they were interrupted due to being attacked by a flock of giant crows who consumed them. Hallow, Panepane, Pakkya and Bastz who witnessed this from afar were in awe at the sight. Pakkya wondered if the reason the giant crows attacked was due to being attracted by the lights on the robots.[15]

Later, Galua and the other Madalan Team Leaders on board the Madalan Mothership stationed in Earth's orbit were discussing the dangers the encountered natural enemies posed to them. The robots were dismissed as a threat to the aliens, the machines deemed as simply evolved Earthling technology.[16]
