Summary
In the Land of the Lawless, the combined forces of humanity work to establish a base for themselves. Heidi, while gathering wood, is approached by Zaybi, asking about the two people from Neo-Terra who helped save him from the Lawless. The two were supposed to be resting inside, and be in quarantine due to being possibly infected by the Parasites, but now have suddenly disappeared. Heidi tells the mage that the two left the camp two days ago and saw them off.
The two had told Heidi that they were certain that they were infected as they could feel the symptoms of the infection. They now have urges to raise their hands against everyone, and go wild and destroy everything. Not wanting to harm their friends and allies, and be no different than the Neo-Humans, the two decided to leave the camp for everyone's safety while they were still human. Heidi tells Zaybi that for humans from Neo-Terra they value self-sacrifice, something their kind have been oppressed for by the Neo-Humans. They take gratification in giving their lives to save others, as it gives meaning to the life lost. Hence she tells the mage that there's no need to blame himself for the fates of her two companions.
At a different part of the camp, Wané of Gaia's Wrath presents her fellow human refugees a lunch spread that she foraged from the edges of the Crimson Forest. The food gathered is mostly composed of insects, grubs and mushroom, all which look unappetizing to some like Mika, Plana, Cartel and Muun. Despite Wané's affirmation that the food is edible and nutritious, the four women make excuses to avoid eating what is before them. Other members in the camp like Keila and members of the Anti-Machine Combat Force find the food to be perfect, having plenty of protein. Similarly those from Titan's Crown and Neo-Terra are appreciative to the food that's available, not picky on the taste.
Takuya, studying the ingredients that are available, properly prepares and cooks the foraged items. When the meal is ready, Takuya presents a refined gourmet dish to the others, who gaze at the freshly cooked food in amazement. The food is positively received by Wané and the others. Wané, fascinated by Takuya's cooking skill, brings him a dead glower mouse she found buried and asks him to cook it, as she has always wanted to try one. However, Masayoshi quickly tells her to throw it away. This proves to be a wise decision when a brown bear appears moments later to claim the carcass back before leaving.
Samone is seen helping Thear install a portable solar generator to provide them electricity. When Glasp approaches and asks about the contraption, the Celestial native explains that it is a generator originally created during his world's space development era. And it can produce enough electricity for their daily needs, which Glasp notes also supplies power to their weapons. Zaybi comes over, glad about the progress of the camp. So far, it has been four days since their arrival in the Land of the Lawless, and while Glasp is unsure if they have fully bluffed the Lawless into not attacking them, they have been left alone for now.
Zaybi still holds out hope that they can come to an accord with the Lawless, as they are humans as well. The meeting is interrupted by Iglay, accompanied by her dog, who tells Zaybi and the others that they are all too naive in underestimating the Lawless. Seeing that Iglay is a native to the Land of the Lawless, the girl explains that the reason why her world was left in ruins was due to humanity's real enemy, itself. The evil that dwells within humans crushed all that was good in her world.
Zaybi thanks Iglay for the warning, but feels that they should at least try to reach out to the Lawless, using the cooperation among the refugees in the camp as an example that despite coming from different cultures and worlds, working together isn’t impossible. And that the future is unknown. Iglay though bluntly states that's how people like him will be exploited as she presses a black knife across the mage's neck to the shock of Glasp and Thear. Iglay admonishes them that they never noticed that a third of the refugees in the camp were part of the Lawless, and had been waiting for the right moment when their guard was down. The girl then demands everything they have for Zaybi's life. In a tense moment by the three men on how they could have been so easily fooled, the threat by Iglay is revealed to be a ruse, and the knife she has was a toy from one of the kids from Disastrous Metropolis.
Iglay’s act is berated by the men, though Zaybi understands the point what she was trying to get. That the Lawless are not to be underestimated. But regardless the mage doesn't want to give up hope on a peaceful future for humanity. Iglay sees that she has said enough, before she takes comfort in her dog, Sam. Glasp is confused by the animal, thinking Iglay is using it as an emergency ration, not seeing the point of keeping the dog alive. Iglay tells the former general that Sam is her family, citing another difference in values between their worlds.
At the edge of the camp, a mage from the Mage Force along with soldiers from the Anti-Machine Combat Force and Parasitica are standing guard at the perimeter. The sentries having not seen any activity from the Lawless, feel that they can fend off any attack. Though one of them spot a truck heading towards the perimeter.
Aboard are three members of the Lawless, Grig, Gisangi and Gaut who are aiming to raid the camp of refugees. The sentries order them to halt their advance. The Lawless then reveal their weapons, which appear from the open truck, two Titans in harnesses and cybernetic implants. The Lawless then mount the Titans, and then begin attacking the sentries with savage glee.
The commotion is heard by the others in the camp. Keila and her soldiers head out to reinforce the perimeter, telling Zaybi to begin evacuating the others. The sentries put up a valiant defense but are easily knocked aside by the Titans and the riders. Keila and Zaybi see that the Titans have cybernetics, which the former explains is actually a sinister technology used by the Robots to turn humans into puppets.
Gisangi soon spots that the camp has many pretty women, and is all more eager to pillage the place. As the Lawless begin riding on Titans and vehicles to breach the camp, Zaybi seeing that there is no chance of winning, makes calculated move and flies in the raiders midst, calling out the camp's surrender to Lawless.
Upon seeing Zaybi's magical abilities and staff, the Lawless immediately recognize him as a mage. Grig accepts the surrender, allowing everyone to live, in exchange for Zaybi coming with them as their boss has been eager to meet a mage. Keila objects, but Zaybi assures her everything will be fine. The mage determines that the Lawless are after magic and thus will keep him alive for as long as necessary. One of the refugees, the representative from Indignia, urges him to reconsider as he may be lost to them like the hero, Ario. Masayoshi tells the others not to count the mage short, as he may have a plan. Zaybi discreetly shows a Parasite enclosed in a magic cube. Wally, seeing it, realizes its the same Parasite that he and Freen helped extract.
Masayoshi explains to the others that he gave Zaybi the idea, the Parasite Bomb, a living Parasite that could be contained and used as a weapon against the Lawless. Though Zaybi prays he does not have to use it as he hides the cube in his robes. Iglay, watching this, regretfully muses his naivety, stating the mage has to be prepared to use every card up his sleeve if he wants to survive, even against another human.
Zaybi is then brought to the base of Kyokai. There, inside what appears to be the ruins of a church, the marauders and Zaybi are greeted by Gore and a new face, Rinri, Kyokai’s leader.
